Dear Members of the Bombay Orthopaedic Society,
It is a great honour to assume the Presidency of this august organisation in such a significant year. As
we complete sixty years of excellence, we enter a phase of maturity and responsibility, and it is
incumbent upon us to evolve accordingly. I take over this role from the capable hands of my
predecessor, Dr. Gautam Zaveri, with a deep sense of responsibility and purpose.
With a membership exceeding 3,000, it is imperative that we continually strive to deliver meaningful
value to our members. Accordingly, the central theme for this year is “BOS First” - placing our
members at the heart of every initiative.
In line with our commitment to academic excellence, we have planned 14 high-quality BOS Basic and
Advanced Courses this year. In addition, we introduce a series of six short courses titled
“Essential Skills for the Orthopaedic Surgeon.” These will address critical non-clinical competencies,
including financial literacy (in collaboration with the NSE), management skills (with IIM Ahmedabad),
medico-legal awareness by leading legal experts, AI in clinical practice by pioneers in the field, career
guidance for trainees by distinguished mentors, and research methodology by experienced
academicians.
Building on the success of last year’s BOS Outreach programs - which extended academic engagement
across the country - we will continue these efforts. At the same time, recognizing the vast
geographical spread of our own membership, we are launching “In-Reach” programs, bringing
high-quality academic sessions to various regions within Mumbai.
Continuing our focus on education, I believe that contemporary learners increasingly engage with
digital platforms over traditional reading. With this in mind, we are conceptualizing the BOS
Orthopaedic Online Textbook - a comprehensive, structured, and easily navigable repository of
lectures delivered by our esteemed faculty. This resource will cover the full orthopaedic curriculum
and be hosted on our website, freely accessible to all members.
These initiatives will complement our established flagship programs, including clinical meetings,
master series, and global webinars, scheduled at convenient times to maximise participation.
WIROC this year aims to deliver tangible value to its delegates. The three days spent at the conference
should meaningfully influence clinical practice, reflected in the theme: “Practice-Changing
Guidelines.”
To further enhance member support, we will be reviving the medico-legal helpline with a panel of
eminent experts. We also plan to update the members’ directory and issue refreshed membership
certificates for display in clinics - because being a member of BOS is a matter of pride.
I am deeply aware that I stand on the shoulders of the giants who have led this organisation before me.
With their legacy as our foundation, I seek the support and goodwill of every member as we work
together to lead BOS with dignity, propriety, and progress.
Warm regards,
Dr. Samir Dalvie
